In order to get the most out of YO VOCAB HOME, and to ensure that you cover the entire vocabulary list that is provided, here are some simple tips and tricks that you can follow.

Acquaint yourself with the entire vocabulary list
Before you start playing your word games, it would be a good idea to browse through the entire vocabulary list that is available in YO VOCAB HOME. In order to do so, click on the File menu and select Meanings and More. The Meanings and More dialog box is displayed, showing the first vocabulary item from the databank in a dropdown list, while its details are displayed in a separate text box below.

You can browse through the entire list using the Up/Down arrow keys, or you can type the first letter of a vocabulary item. For example, typing 'p' will take you to the first vocabulary item starting with the letter 'p', while typing 'zy' in quick succession will take you to the first vocabulary item starting with the letters 'zy'.

How to play your word games with the entire vocabulary list
Based on your selection criteria, YO VOCAB HOME will bring forth 10 vocabulary items per game.

In order to cover the entire vocabulary list, you will need to refine your search criteria to bring up specific vocabulary items. The topic on Advanced Search explains how you should refine your search criteria.

A suggested way to ensure that you have faced all the vocabulary items is to print the Vocabulary Index, and keep it handy when playing the games. Tick the vocabulary items that you face each time. This way you will be able to identify the vocabulary items that need to be faced and can suitably modify your search criteria.

Yet another suggested way to ensure that you have faced all the vocabulary items is to print the Vocabulary Count (print it Alphabetically, or by Subjects and Age Groups, or by Difficulty Levels, depending on how you wish to go through the entire list) and keep it handy when playing the games. Using this method, you would be aware of the number of vocabulary items that are available by their classifications, and you would be able to suitably modify your search criteria accordingly.

Best search methods to cover the entire vocabulary list in your word games
To cover all the vocabulary items in the list:

By Age Groups - Select the relevant Age Group in the Start Word Game - (Game Format) dialog box, and leave all the other fields blank. This way you will be able to cover the vocabulary list by Age Groups.

By Subjects - Select the relevant Subject in the Start Word Game - (Game Format) dialog box, and leave all the other fields blank. This way you will be able to cover the vocabulary list by Subjects.

By Difficulty Levels - Select the relevant Difficulty Level in the Start Word Game - (Game Format) dialog box, and leave all the other fields blank. This way you will be able to cover the vocabulary list by Difficulty Levels.

Beginning with a letter - Type 'a*', in the Advanced Search field in the Start Word Game - (Game Format) dialog box, and leave all the other fields blank. Vocabulary items beginning with 'a' (maximum of ten) will be brought forth. Follow this pattern for the rest of the letters ; b*, c*, d* etc.

YO VOCAB Flash Cards, Snap Cards, and Quiz Cards
YO VOCAB HOME also provides you with a print option in the Summary and More dialog box that prints the questions asked in the game, in the form of Flash Cards, Snap Cards, and Quiz Cards. Use these cards to improve your vocabulary, as well as to test others.

Begin with Flash Cards
Flash Cards are a convenient way to improve your vocabulary. YO VOCAB Flash Cards are printed with various details of the vocabulary item, like its Pronunciation, Part of Speech, and Short Meaning.

You can also print a maximum of three additional details like Age Group, Difficulty Level, Subject, Long Meaning, Origin, Usage Example, Synonym, Antonym, Homonym, Homograph, Homophone, and Related Vocabulary. By default, the Long Meaning, Usage Example and Related Vocabulary are selected as additional details.

Graduate to Snap Cards and Quiz Cards
YO VOCAB Snap Cards can be used to improve your vocabulary and memory. They can also be used to play a variety of entertaining games, either on your own or with family and friends. Snap Cards are printed as a pair - one contains the vocabulary item, while the second one contains its short meaning.

Snap Cards can be printed with or without the Snap Cards Reference Sheet, which lists the vocabulary items along with their short meanings. The Snap Cards Reference Sheet is very helpful during a Snap Card Game, to decide if a player has matched a pair of Snap Cards correctly.

YO VOCAB Quiz Cards let you prepare and take vocabulary quizzes in several interesting formats. It is suggested that you print Quiz Cards for the vocabulary items in sequence, for example , print Quiz Cards for all vocabulary items beginning with ‘a’, then 'b’ and so on. Quiz Cards can be very useful when preparing for a vocabulary-based exam.

As explained above, in order to avoid printing multiple Flash Cards /Snap Cards/Quiz Cards of the same vocabulary item, it is suggested that you print the Vocabulary Index, and mark the vocabulary items whose Cards are printed each time. For better management of these Cards, you may want to store them either Alphabetically, or by Subjects, or by Age Groups, or by Difficulty Levels.

Playing the same game in multiple game formats
YO VOCAB HOME also provides you with a Play this Game in a New Format option in the Summary and More dialog box. This option allows you to play one set of vocabulary items in several other formats (depending on which PACK you are using). This will help you to comprehensively test your knowledge of Vocabulary Item, as each successive game format will progressively test you on aspects of the vocabulary item, which you will have learnt in the previous game formats.

For example, in the Multiple Choice format, Vocabulary Items are displayed and you are required to guess their correct meaning from the given options.

If you repeat the same game in the Acrossword format, the meanings would be displayed and you would be required to guess the correct vocabulary items. This will challenge your cognitive skills and help you gauge whether you truly comprehend the meaning of the vocabulary items that you had viewed in the previous game.

Further, if you play the same game in the Word Juggler format, the scrambled form of the correct vocabulary items are displayed and you are required to unscramble them. If you correctly guess the vocabulary item on the basis of the sentence provided, it will indicate that you have understood how to correctly use the vocabulary item in a sentence, thus improving your language skills.

This option is also an excellent way of testing your memory, as each new game format tests you on what was displayed to you in the preceding games.

Note : The recommended setting for the printer Paper Size is A4. If you are using a duplex printer, please do not select    duplex printing option. Print on one side of the page only.
